This class is designed for new swimmers who haven't had previous lessons or who need armbands or floatation aids to move through the water.
By the end of Jellyfish swimmers will have water confidence, an understanding of each stroke and will be learning the skills for treading water.
Distance Award: 5m independent swim in one armband
Starfish
Starfish
To join a starfish class swimmers should be able to put their faces in the water and have water confidence. Swimmers should be able to jump in the pool unaided and swim without floatation aids.
By the end of Starfish swimmers will be able to swim independently, recognise each stroke, demonstrate and explain why we tread water.
Distance Award: 5m independent swim
Seahorse

Swimmers should have an understanding of all 4 strokes and be starting to swim all of them without floatation aids
By the end of Seahorse swimmers will be able to demonstrate each stroke, pick up an object from the bottom of the pool and perform a sitting dive.
Distance Award: 10m independent swim.
Octopus
Octopus
Swimmers should be able to demonstrate correct stroke technique for all 4 strokes. Demonstrate a sitting dive and be able to swim to the bottom of the pool.
By the end of Octopus swimmers will start to demonstrate further distances with correct stroke technique, tread water independently, perform kneeling dives.
Distance Award: 15m independent swim
Stingray
Stingray
To join a Stingray class swimmers need to be able to demonstrate all 4 strokes to a recognisable standard and swim 15m independently.
By the end of Stingray swimmers will have an understanding of water safety, build on their stamina whilst retaining their stroke technique and an introduction to personal survival skills with a straddle jump.
Distance Award: 25m independent swim
